Things To Do In Orlando, Florida

From Disney Theme Parks, SeaWorld and Universal, to the world class golf courses, Orlando Florida vacations offer fun for all ages making it the perfect vacation spot year-round. Let’s take a closer look:

Take In Some of the Orlando Wildlife

You might not expect it, but Orlando has some of the most amazing natural wildlife on offer to tourists anywhere in Florida. Pick your attractions just right, and Orlando may even let you get close enough to its natural wildlife to reach out and touch it. From zoos to alligator farms and bird sanctuaries, there’s something here for anyone a walk on the wild side.

Hit The Beach

The beautiful Cocoa Beach is just a short 45 minute drive along the Atlantic coast from the city proper. With beautiful blue waters and the sounds of waves crashing in the background, you’ve got everything you need to relax and enjoy this sunkissed paradise on a long, lazy drive.

Skydiving

Believe it or not, Orlando and much of central Florida is actually home to some of the most voracious skydiving groups you’re likely to find. With dozens of different jumps happening both here and in outlying cities throughout the week, it’s not hard to find a group to hurl yourself out of a plane with.

For our money, the Sky Dive Space Center is easily one of the most exhilarating experiences you can have with a parachute, boasting one of the highest falls in the world (5,000 meters). Not for the faint of heart.

Roadside Attractions

Before central Florida became known as the amusement park capital of the world, it used to have another claim to fame: incredible roadside attractions. Check out a massive recreation of Mount Rushmore made out of chocolate. Visit the grave of TV super artist, Bob Ross. There’s even a gigantic Titanic tribute attraction, complete with guided tours and parts of the actual vessel itself.

If what you’re looking for is a unique experience, these roadside attractions have everything and more.

Gatorland

Known to the locals and anybody who’s ever passed one of their impressive billboards, this attraction bills itself as the Alligator Capital of the World. And it’s not hard to see why. With alligators big and small (and even some very rare white albino gators), this is the perfect opportunity to commune with these scaley creatures in a safe environment.

Of course, there’s always the opportunity for a little adventure and, if you’re feeling frisky, you can opt to take a zip line across a pool of hungry gators. Just picture yourself as your favorite action movie star and take the plunge!

The Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex

Got a little astronaut in you? At the Kennedy Space Center, you can get a once-in-a-lifetime glimpse into America’s longstanding space program. With guided tours around the facility, amazing exhibits, and even some genuine retired space spacecraft on display, this is a NASA lover’s dream.

The Silver Moon Drive-In

There’s nothing like a little slice of nostalgia to make a trip special. Why not take in a movie, at one of the few remaining drive-in movie theaters left in the area, with the Silver Moon drive-in? For a low-cost ticket, check out a double feature of first-run movies, all from the comfort of your car. This is a great one for the kids, as many of them won’t remember this kind of thing ever being an option in the first place.

Mount Dora

This quaint city located just north of Orlando is the perfect option for someone looking to slow things down for an afternoon. Featuring a bevy of locally-owned shops and museums, the town is a monument to old-fashioned design and a simpler way of life. They are also known for their various annual craft festivals, where you can help support the local economy by taking home something beautiful during your visit.

Getting Around In Orlando

Orlando ranks pretty highly in terms of walkability, and most visitors choose to get around on foot, as a result. This works well for local areas but, remember, Orlando is a sprawling city with lots to see and do. If you’re in the downtown area and need to get somewhere else in order to make a booking, you’ll likely have to travel by car.

There are several public transport options, including bus via the GoLynx carrier. This is fine if you’re taking your time getting somewhere, but can be a little inconvenient and unpredictable if you need to be somewhere on time. As with anywhere else, these are buses, and they will be making stops, so if you need to go directly, you’d do better either driving yourself or getting a taxi.

For a taste of San Francisco right here in Orlando, there is also a fantastic trolley that rides up and down through the city center. The vehicle makes regular stops and is a delightful way to get around if you don’t feel like walking.

Beyond that, taxis and Ubers are everywhere and easy enough to get around in.
